One Step at a Time

Ever have those days when it just seems like everything goes wrong?

For example:

You snooze your alarm longer than you should so you’re running late and even though you know it’s your fault, you’re still blaming every other reason for it. You just HAD to finish that last dream, ya know?

Then you go to Starbuck’s to treat yourself for being late because it’ll make you feel a little better… but then Starbuck’s has the NERVE to make your drink wrong.

Then you get to work and you question everything about your life because you don’t think you can make it in the real workforce.

So you get off work to go play a friendly game of Monopoly with your friends to lighten your day up but then you go bankrupt in the FIRST ROUND?!

Yeah. Those are some first world problems.

My point is, we all have rough days no matter how big or small.

One of my newest projects in life is to find something I can work on to improve myself as an individual, my lifestyle, or my future. I’m taking one step at a time because it’s a process that is slow but sure. I’ve reminisced on past habits I used to do when I was young and carefree. I tend to think about what my younger self would say to me now. Would I be happy with the direction of my life? How I treat people? How I am as a person? You get it.

One very old habit of mine that I have slowly lost was the ability to find a positive in everything. As I’ve grown and experienced more things I have lost the “ignorance is bliss” part of youth. Yeah, I’m still a really positive person – but when I say I found positive things in everything, I mean that. You could be like, “Mallory, you can’t have pets anymore,” (which is a HUGE deal to me). I might go crazy and have a mental breakdown first, but then I’d be like well now I have an excuse to be homeless and live in a pet shelter with all of the other homeless animals now. Or something ridiculous like that.

My point is I have been working on finding the positives in everything I do, even if it’s picking up a pile of dog poo. I’ve learned it changes my entire mood, but it also makes everything more enjoyable for those who I am surrounded by as well. It’s amazing what having a good mindset can do to a not-so-exciting situation and the positives that could come out of it when you think it’s impossible to find a ray of light in it.

So, my point of writing this? I don’t really know. It was just on my mind and I want to write whatever is on my mind at that moment because it makes it that much more meaningful to me as a writer. It’s not forced. That’s my forte. Thanks for reading ❤
