What am I going to do with my life?
A question many of us ask ourselves on a daily basis.
A question some of us have had answered since we were young.
A question that seems to follow us relentlessly as though an answer even exists.
I’m guilty of antagonizing myself to get a clear answer to such an open ended question.
I’m guilty of putting pressure on others by asking them this question.
But what I’m most guilty of, is forgetting what this question actually means to me.
The inner Michelle Obama in me wants to write some philosophical blog that brings you major enlightenment of what you want to do with your life. But I’m not Michelle Obama, and I don’t have the answers. So welcome to my raw feelings about the question, “what am I going to do with my life?”
There is so much unnecessary pressure on this question.
Assuming we all want to do one thing for the rest of our lives is completely obstinate.
So I just flip the way I view the question.
There’s so much to explore, so much to learn, and so much to try. I myself am a curious, adventure person – trying new things is an inevitable sequence in my life. I love a challenge, and I love switching things up. I don’t want to deprive myself of what the world and my career has to offer by limiting my imagination on what I am going to do with my life. Nor should anyone else. So I decide to answer very broadly.
So what am I going to do with my life?
I am going to make the most of it.
The fine details of this question will come along as we live. No one will know what they’re going to do with their life until they do it. I have no clue where my career is taking me, I have no idea where I’ll be living next year, I have no idea when I’ll start dating seriously and start considering a family – but I can tell you that I will make the most of whatever pathway I’m on and I’ll embrace it 100% as I’m figuring it out.
One thing I will not do with my life is spend a ridiculous amount of time worry about what I’m going to do because there really is no answer. I think I just needed a little reminder of that as the mid-twenties feel like limbo sometimes.

When I read this, I clapped!
Everyday is another chance to live your life how you want to. We may not know what in the world we are doing, but we can make sure our attitude is right and we are enjoying the things we do on a day to day basis. At the end of the day it’s going to be all of the little actions and experiences along the way that shape us into living a fulfilling life. When you focus on just living and doing, everything else will fall into place and before you know it your life will answer the “what are you going to do with your life?” question on it’s own. It will be natural.
You are the best project that you will work on. Attend to you everyday. Everything else will fall into place.
Thank you for reading.
